i agree i like the first part of the video, and i think she is a historical figure that we black women should know about!  however, since i did a couple of booty topics earlier, it made me think about this topic and i felt i needed to give my opinion on what i really thought about the rest of the video (after the history lesson).  many of the things that people blame on black women is an AMERICAN problem.

I agree, and we should be ashamed.

I agree dawn. Also I thought it was so disrespectful that her private part was removed and put on display. It's sad that her body was disrespected by being put on display like an extinct animal, or freak show. it will always be depressing to me that people were that cruel and some still are.

Sara Baartman: Every Bw Should Know Her Name

around the 3 minute mark of the video until the end is where i have a problem and disagreement with the video, and why i will eventually remove the stickiness from the topic...one day (after it stays there for awhile).  here's my gripe:

my gripe is what is described as the american culture.  black women are not doing those types of things anymore than any other woman out there!  the only difference is that our azzes generally are naturally bigger than other races of women, but that does not make us any nastier or more degrading simply because we have big booties!

women left and right of all races are competing heavily to take the place of black women in these videos and are actually winning!  women of all races pose for PLAYBOY, MAXIM, FHM MAGAZINE, ETC!   being overly sexy and trying to appeal to men is NOT a ONLY a black woman's thing...this can be found in ALL races of women!  if anything black women NEED the FEW spots they get in the rap videos shaking their azzes!  why?  because there is no place else in the world where black women are shown as being sexy, attractive and appealing to men...that is the ONLY place black women can compete.  now, don't get it twisted...i really wish NO women did it.  i wish the society were a lot more MODEST than what it is...but the REALITY it is NOT and black women and her beauty is being swept under the rug faster than dirt, while other women's beauty and appeal are being show to men left and right.  that has INCREASED the black man's appeal in non black women.

why is it when BLACK women do something that ALL other women do, it's BAD?  it's sooooooo much NASTIER and DIRTIER than when other women do it?  somehow we are looked at as sluts and whores while the other women are glorified for their beauty!  that's one of the things we are fighting for on this site, is for people to stop making things that black women do that are the same or very similar to other women so much worse.

i want people to stop preaching to black women about how we are so low life...instead, preach to america!

The only negative is that if you watch within the post you have to stay unless you open another window.  Before I'd let the video play on YT while continuing to browse here.  There's a button on the player if you want the video to open up in Youtube.

From wiki:

Her exhibition in London, scant years after the passing of the Slave Trade Act 1807, created a scandal. An abolitionist benevolent society called the African Association, the equivalent of a charity or pressure group, petitioned for her release. Baartman was questioned before a court in Dutch, in which she was fluent, and stated that she was not under restraint and understood perfectly that she was guaranteed half of the profits. The conditions under which she made these statements are suspect, because it directly contradicts accounts of her exhibitions made by Zachary Macaulay of the African Institution and other eyewitnesses.

What a coincidence, I was about to do a post on her, since I found out abut her yesterday, after CS used a word I had never heard: ''Steatopygia''
