i can tell you one thing, i'll be taking a trip around africa in about 2 years from now (God willing, of course).  my plans are to go (not in any particular order) -

SOUTH AFRICA (for sure)

tanzania
zanzibar island
ethiopia (where our oldest mother is from)

Thats great Dawn. I also plan on taking a trip to the  motherland. But for me personally I probably will stick to the English speaking African countries such as Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Liberia, and Ghana. I definitely want to visit Ghana

I first heard of this pink lake in Kola Boof's book "Flesh and The Devil," turns out its actually a real place called Lake Retba.

Lake Retba or Lac Rose lies north of the Cap Vert peninsula of Senegal, north east of Dakar.

It is so named for its pink waters, caused by cyanobacteria in the water. The color is particularly visible during the dry season. The lake is also known for its high salt content, which, like that of the Dead Sea, allows people to float easily. The lake also has a small salt collecting industry and is often the finishing point of the Dakar Rally.

Many salt collectors work 6–7 hours a day in the lake, which has a salt content close to 40%. In order to protect their skin, they rub their skin with "Beurre de Karité" (shea butter, produced from shea nuts obtained from the Shea nut tree), which is an emollient used to avoid tissue damage.

This lake was used on a task of the Amazing Race 6 in which teams had to collect salt in a basket from the bottom of the lake floor.

Do you know this is a beautiful restaurant boat, i went there last year and it was gorgeous, only downside is that the place is always packed with tourists, so its hard to get a table, the view however is breathtaking.....there are parts of the nile that are heavily polluted though which is a damn shame.

wow that amazing grace trailer was really good. You know the katanga and the queen nzinga were african people who fought against slavery in africa. The katanga traded weapons to defend against the slave traders and that is why the atlantic slave trade didn't extend down to southern africa, like it did in west africa. I am going to do some more research on them, but its hard to find info. Then I will post it.
