i don't know for sure why senegal, but it may be because it's well known that senegal one of the largest places for exporting slaves from west africa to the americas.  "the door of no return" in senegal is pictured below (that is where the slaves boarded the ships).  i think that's why in the video they held up the sign "welcome home"!
