another thing...why are some white men so defensive about what their ancestors did?  it wasn't them so why try to cover the dirt?  i don't blame white people of today for what happened.  i blame them for their actions that they do now...just like any other race of people, including black.

very interesting story.

one thing in the video that caught my attention was the mention of "paramour rights" where white men could have black mistresses and FORCE them to have their children.  in other words even 100 years after slavery white men could legally rape black women.  yet we have people today who say white men don't rape black women.  what they are not taking into consideration is that often times is not called rape, even though it is.  slick terms are used to cover it up, and it's called something else, or it's thrown out of court.

i wouldn't be surprised if they casted some ambiguous looking woman in the role of Ruby and then made some white man into the hero of the film...cuz that's how they do us...

Story of Ruby McCollum- Black Woman Who Killed White Man Will Be a Movie



Ruby McCollum was a Black woman who in 1952 was convicted of murdering Dr. C Leroy Adams. She had been forced into a sexual relationship with him and forced to bear his child, despite the fact that she was a married woman.

When she testified in court, she was not allowed to tell her side of the story and was ultimatly sentenced to death. However, that decision was appealed and she was sentenced to serve 20 years in a mental institution instead because she was declared mentally "unstable." She lived in the mental institution and died in a home in 1992.

Zora Neal Hurston, a black woman, was one of the first to cover her trial in detail.

Today, they are making a movie, but not based on Zora Neal Hurston work...nope...instead on the work of William Bradford Huie ...a white man who got much of his information from the work of Zora Neal Hurston...a black woman.

So once again the credit in the movie will go to Huie, and not Hurston...


I'm sure we've all heard this by now, but as Hurston, herself said..."black women ARE the mules of the world..." can't even tell the stories of OUR own group...can't have our voices heard even in 2011.

sad.... all i can say is i hope it doesn't turn into another "distortion," like The Help...
