Court records show Davis, who has sons aged 14 and 4, is facing an unrelated criminal charge in which she is accused of slashing the tires of another woman's car with a knife in January 2009.

Lewis described that as the result of a "personal relationship" and said Davis was unaware of the charge until he began investigating her background. She turned herself in on that charge, posted a $1,000 bond Tuesday and faces a court hearing next week.

 I remember this incident . It happened right here in Houston  . She was later fired and the school is in a lawsuit . This is more of doing the wrong thing for the right reason . According to state laws , school districts are required to have parents to sign a form for disciplinary action . Since this school is a private school and is not apart of a public school system , They can't carry out any type of punishment on any student because the laws protect students . Some schools don't have a disciplinary program or procedure and they stopped paddling . In this case , the teacher was right  for a reason to defend the other student at the same time unprofessional because she should have sent him out of the room to the office . This is why it is hard for parents to know what their kid or kids are doing because they are not around them most of the time the only they find out is by letter in the mail or phone call either from the teacher or from the principal . Houston schools have had high dropout rates , increase in school violence ,and teacher shortages where the classes are two times bigger than a normal class of 15 to 25 students . Another reason is child abuse and the law protects children . What they need to do is have security surveillance in those class rooms and every school needs a police office on campus like they do at the universities . This will cut the violence down in half . As a matter of fact , the school district I live in and graduated from passed a attendance law with the DA that says schools have the right to call the DA office and fine the parents $500 if their child or children is out of school and they can also call CPS Child Protective Service . Luckily that didn't happen in this case because they say has been from living from house to house .

I don't understand why so many people justify this teacher's actions. I  think of it this way: You hit your own child because they acted out - you can face fines, go to jail and possibly have the child taken away from you. Because it's against the law to physically punish your child. Do kids need azz whippings? - Yes. Are parents afraid to give azz whippings these days? - Yes. But do you really think that teachers should have more authority to punish and beat your children than you do? Now I do think certain laws need to be challenged about how a parent disciplines their child. It doesn't help society. It hinders it. We can deal with parents who abuse this law. I think a belt works and is sometimes needed. Not all the time, but a parent needs to ascertain control. Without that, then you are not the parent. This teacher deserves to be punished. How dare I even say a teacher, when she performed these actions in front of impressionable kids who were laughing about it and recording this behavior on their cell phones as a joke. Kids who already have behavioral problems as the teacher admitted herself. This woman's actions cannot be justified... not even a little bit. (Beating on her chest like Mighty Joe Young?) Come on now.

i guess i should have worded that better meant to say "I understand WHY she snapped." Not justifying it in anyway, as I said in my comment earlier, but do I understand WHY she snapped and how it came to that...yes I do. Does that make it right, no it doesn't as I said she needs to get some training and anger management

so she snapped...it's understandable, not right but understandable. I'm getting sick of punk kids bullying mentally retarded kids...if i had a mentally retarded kid and someone bullied mine I would probably be angry too, would i react like she did, I don't believe so. I'm sure I would have called the police on them which is probably what the  should have done.

But, I remember my  telling me in some of the schools the kids can get out of control, they can be violent ot the teacher, throw chairs and no one really helps the  like they should. so i can understand her frustration, but she should not have reacted the way she did.

And i also think another teacher should have been there to stop her before it escalated.

 need to be trained in self defense and how to diffuse those kind of situations. she lost it though. She probably should get some anger management and the little boy too.

i agree with everything except for the part that it's understandable that she snapped.  she just shouldn't have snapped (especially not under that situation) no matter how angry she may have gotten.  she should have controlled her emotions and not bang that boys head against the wall.

I hear where she's coming from and I like that she was standing up for this  who couldn't defend herself.  The incident isn't justified at all but I can understand how she probably just was triggered and lost it.

That's an excellent point. By reacting the way she did she put herself in the same  as the children. Her job is supposed to be a . By behaving the way she did, she didn't teach those children anything and you are right, instead of teaching at that ... maybe she should be attending someplace herself.

what she did goes far beyond a "butt whippin", and i believe she was out of line (although not necessarily a bad person).

i can understand what she's saying in the video and i think it's great that she came out publicly to explain what happened.  however, i think she's guilty of the same thing (or even more) of what she was defending the mentally challenged girl from.  you behaved no differently than the other kids and was showing the same behavior that she said was bad.

the good thing that may come from this is that changes may now be made at the school and other schools because her points that she made in the video were valid and changes need to be made.

i don't think she should go back to teaching because she's going to face challenging behavior again and she just may not be able to control herself again in the future.

she's probably not a bad person, but needs some of the same counseling that she says the students and other teachers at that school need.

You may have heard this story when it first happened. What I want to know is do you think this action was justified or not? If you are old school like me, then you believe children need discipline which is just fine, but when do we go too far?
