Re: Bushmen, San, Sho, Basarwa, Kung, or Khwe African Tribe

The indigenous people of southern Africa, whose territory spans most areas of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Mozambique, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia, and Angola, are variously referred to as Bushmen, San, Sho, Basarwa, Kung, or Khwe. These people were traditionally hunter-gatherers, part of the Khoisan group and are related to the traditionally pastoral Khoikhoi. Starting in the 1950s, and lasting through the 1990s, they switched to farming as a result of government-mandated modernization programs as well as the increased risks of a hunting and gathering lifestyle in the face of technological development. There is a significant linguistic difference between the northern Bushmen living between Okavango (Botswana) and Etosha (Namibia), extending into southern Angola on the one hand and the southern group in the central Kalahari towards the Molopo, who are the last remnant of the extensive autochthonous San of South Africa.

The Bushmen have provided a wealth of information for the fields of anthropology and genetics, even as their lifestyles change. One broad study of African genetic diversity completed in 2009 found the San people were among the five populations with the highest measured levels of genetic diversity among the 121 distinct African populations sampled.[1][2]  www.wikipedia.com

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I find this tribe to have a very interesting look.  Out of all African groups I've seen so far, Asian people seem to resemble them most.  At the same time, they seem to have some of the most tightly coiled hair that i have seen out of all African people, AND they are some of the lighter ones too.

- aren't they cute? :)

here's a video of them -

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday!  In fact, it was the best thanksgiving I've ever had.

I saw one of my cousins, whose dad is from Nigeria.  I asked her what tribe is her dad from (since this site, i'm now interested in learning about africa tribes).  She said he's from the Yoruba Tribe.

Here's pictures of Yoruba Women

Fulani Tribe

They are the LARGEST nomadic group in the world.  Their total population is 27 Million.

Location: They are predominantly in West Africa (most African American slaves were taken from there); therefore, many of US (African Americans) are probably Fulani descendants. (that's my thoughts as of right this moment).  However, they are also in Central Africa and North Sudan.  The countries they are located in are:  Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea, The Gambia, Mali, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Niger, Chad, Togo, the Central African Republic, Ghana, Liberia, and as far as Sudan in the east.

dawn do u know why the box w/ the "x" sometimes appears?

yeah, i saw the "x" a minute ago too (which means broken image).  i was about to modify your message because i was thinking that you did something wrong when adding the pic, but i refreshed the page and the picture was there and so i didn't need to do anything.  what i did notice is when this pic was an x the other pics on the page were visible.  that tells me that the other website's server (where this picture is being hosted) is having a connection problem; that is making the picture not appear all of the time.

p.s.  yes, that other girl is pretty, and so is this one.

so here is what they put in their hair

ochre powder, butter and herbs...they all have long hair, i wonder if that helps protect the hair and keep it moist so it grows..??? what do yo u think dawn?

i think that must be a "protective" style.  you know how they always talk about that on youtube.  lol.  however, it looks like they put the same thing all over their body including the face.  why does that one girl's neck look so oily though?

The Himba seem like a beautiful people. They put red ochre dye on to protect them from the sun and to symbolize the earth/blood.
I wonder what they do to their hair though.
